Īccording to Mavor, while game visualization began in May 2012, three months prior to the game's public announcement, the game concept itself had been in development for approximately three years by that time. Voice actor John Patrick Lowrie, who did all the narrations for Total Annihilation, did the narrations for Planetary Annihilation as well. The game's art style was created by Steve Thompson, who also previously worked on Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. Jon Mavor wrote the graphics engine for Total Annihilation, and was also the lead programmer on Supreme Commander. The player(s) lose when their last commander is destroyed. In development updates, Mavor has commented that "a million" in-game units is a design goal of the development team. The game's creators stated that Planetary Annihilation will resemble something of the 1997 real-time strategy Total Annihilation as its focus is more towards 'macro' gameplay as opposed to 'micro' gameplay. These planets are dynamic in that they can be 'annihilated' using other planets or catalysts, a major focus for Uber Entertainment. Players will be able to conquer other planets and even entire systems on maps said to include "hundreds of worlds", through the Galactic War. Planetary Annihilation features a planet-based map system with different types of planets and asteroid like moons. However, at release 40-player matches were not yet available. In interviews with PC Gamer and Joystiq, lead game developer Jon Mavor commented that the game's complexity and playtime can vary, from half-hour, 2-player battles to lengthy matches with potentially 40-players. maintains development of both Planetary Annihilation and Planetary Annihilation: Titans via ongoing content additions and balance changes. The game was released in 2014, and the stand-alone expansion Planetary Annihilation: Titans was released in 2015. Planetary Annihilation is a real-time strategy PC game originally developed by Uber Entertainment, whose staff included several video game industry veterans who worked on Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. I've found that many people find the actual tech discovery frustrating which is why I was looking at unit restrictions with buffs / nerfs for map specific loadouts or design your own loadouts.Ĭan probably make tech discovery optional.Uber Entertainment (prior to August 18, 2018) Is it the tech discovery you find interesting or the variety of being forced to play with restricted units? Honestly, the biggest reason I play galactic war in singleplayer is the tech system which makes it more challenging and unique. I was thinking that tech system would be nice to be at least potentially applicable since some players (such as myself) find that the most distict and interesting part of galactic war. The other important part of multi-player galactic war is new steam achievements. The main issue was finding a clear way to communicate those unit edits in the multiplayer new game lobby and live game so that there is less surprises or trolling of other players. There is already some prototype work of a simple unit editor for the existing unit restrictions in community mods. I was thinking more of including unit restrictions and a similar simple buff / nerf system instead of tech discovery. Ideally that same infrastructure can eventually be used for team vs team clan style wars across a galaxy. My current thoughts are extending factions to be more like some of the Queller AI sub personalities. I want that to be fully moddable and customisable with support for mods like Legion Expansion. My initial focus is on the infrastructure to support multi-game wars over time that allow for team vs AI(s) with both procedurally generated and manually design galaxies. And will there be 4 factions in "co-op" mode with 2 being players who can fight alongside each other, or even as 1 faction (easier to make that as co-op then I guess)Īs mentioned in my reply the prototype does not include tech discovery and I'm not sure I want tech discovery for multi-player galactic war.
